Beautiful waterfall views. Easy trails. You can just go to the overlook for fantastic views or walk down to the base of the falls and get up close and personal. Full review by Pate R

Pisgah National Forest is only 15 minutes away and has many camping spots.

Yes, dogs are allowed but I think they must be on 6' leash.

Would it be easier hike to high falls to park at the visitor center vs the other parking lot to hooker falls?

Don’t know for sure but the visitor center is closer I think

Are there places to have a picnic without hiking?

Sure, but my recommendation is to get there and go to the ranger station for advice and maps / info to where best to picnic for what you would like to see.
