Absolutely amazing. Walking around and sometimes on the still warm and steaming rocks is just a unique experience. Must see together with Viti lake. Full review by zpeller

Parking is free. We walked to a geyser area, then to a vast lava field with snow-covered mountains in the backdrop. No toilet in this area. Full review by LisaMNUSA

The answer for Iceland is all of the above. Plan for wind and rain, and also for sun. The weather really can change every 5 minutes. Light waterproof layers are the way to go. Don't miss the leirhnjukur lava field hike, it's amazing. It's near a mostly unmarked parking area across the road from viti crater.
Q:
Do you need 4x4 to drive here?
A:
No, it's just by the main road
