It's quite far away. It takes about 3.5 - 4 hours from Kyoto to Yasugi (about 390 km). It will cost around 12,000 yen (one way). Take the Nozomi bullet train from Kyoto to Okayama (it's …

It's quite far away. It takes about 3.5 - 4 hours from Kyoto to Yasugi (about 390 km). It will cost around 12,000 yen (one way). Take the Nozomi bullet train from Kyoto to Okayama (it's 3 stops). Then, transfer to the JR Express train "Yakumo", it's 7 stops to Yasugi. They have a shuttle bus from the station. It's probably best to stay a few days in Shimane Pref., as there's lots to see: Izumo Grand Shrine, Lafcadio Hearn's museum, Matsue Castle as well as many other shrines and temples.
