While I was there, on two different recent visits, it was obvious that the visitors were of different cultural backgrounds. It appeared that all were treated equally with courtesy and respect. I base this on the entrance line, the cafe service, a Friday night Jazz concert and a free daytime lecture discussion which I attended. The lecturer was giving information on Barnes’ method of displaying all his various works of art. It was a casual round table (actually rectangular) and involved audience participation. The opinions were taken respectfully and fostered further discussions among the entire group. Dr. Barnes was known to be an open minded person. His collection, although famous for the French Impressionists, is very eclectic and represents many different cultures. Therefore, it attracts many visitors from different backgrounds.
