Police first received reports of the threats on Feb. 16. However, parents reported that they found out about the threats while watching the news days later.

A Charlotte man is in jail on allegations that he made mass shooting threats against local schools, according to court records. A search warrant says emails and letters sent Feb. 15 and on Tuesday threatened several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, and that police connected those threats to Drew Owens, 31, through information from his family.

The superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools sent a letter and video apologizing to all parents and teachers in the district on Monday. It was her first public response to the shooting threats against five schools last week that were uncovered by a Channel 9 investigation.
