OMAHA — Arizona was hoping to get some payback Sunday at the College World Series in its rematch against Louisville.
Louisville trailed for 7 innings, but exploded for 6 runs in the 8th inning and stunned Arizona in the first elimination game of the CWS.
Louisville beat Arizona 8-3 in an elimination game at the College World Series, ending the Wildcats’ season. The Cardinals scored six runs in the eighth to put the game away. On Friday, Coastal Carolina had a three-run eighth to down Arizona 7-4.
Garen Caulfield, one of two senior starters, talked about the late-season run Arizona made just to reach the CWS. The Wildcats lost to North Carolina 18-2 in the best-of-three super regional but bounced back to win 10-8 and 4-3 to earn a trip to Omaha.

Arizona made it to Omaha all but one year from 1954-60 and won its three titles in the 1970s and 1980s across five CWS appearances. After missing it 17 consecutive times between 1987 and 2003, the Wildcats returned to the CWS in 2004, marking their first of five appearances this century. Four of those trips have come since 2012.
