The Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees made an impact trade on Thursday, and it's clear where both teams stand in the aftermath. New York is going for broke, having acquired ex-Pirates closer David Bednar to go with Jake Bird and Camilo Doval in its new-look bullpen.

The Yanks went toward the MLB trade deadline wanting to upgrade their relief corps. And goodness gracious, they did that and more. The Yankees pulled off three separate deals before the deadline on Thursday. From the Pittsburgh Pirates, they acquired David Bednar. From the San Francisco Giants, they picked up Camilo Doval.

New York shipped three minor league prospects to last-place Pittsburgh in exchange for Bednar: catcher and first baseman Rafael Flores, catcher Edgleen Perez and outfielder Brian Sanchez.
