NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station shared a special Christmas holiday message for everyone back on Earth.

Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore won't be back on Earth before March, but they've got candy canes and Santa hats to celebrate the holiday.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams brought Christmas cheer to the ISS, donning Santa hats despite being stranded in orbit since June. Social media buzzed with playful questions about how festive decorations made it on their originally short mission,

NASA described that the stars appear in blue and white lights because of the X-rays they give off, which the Chandra X-ray detected. The stars are surrounded by swirls of gas, which look like pine needles of an evergreen tree. They are green because they represent the light in the visible spectrum, according to NASA.
