Earth has got a new mini-moon for the next couple of days and it has fascinated people across social media. Albeit, it might not be visible to the naked eye without a telescope due to its small size.

It's thought the asteroid will circle Earth until the end of November, before moving on to other parts of the Milky Way.

Earth will temporarily capture asteroid 2024 PT5, a mini moon about 10 metres in size, for two months starting Sunday. Discover its significance.

Though referred to as a mini-moon, 2024 PT5 won't complete a full orbit around Earth. Instead, it will be a “temporarily captured flyby,” circling around 25 percent of the planet's surface before heading off again into the solar system. These brief encounters are common, and many mini-moons don't stick around long enough to form a stable orbit.

PT5 will orbit Earth from September 29 to November 25, before breaking free from the planet's gravitational pull.
