The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Friday to hear a bid by religious parents to keep their children out of classes in a Maryland public school district when LGBT storybooks are read, the latest case to come to the justices involving the intersection between religion and LGBT rights.

The Supreme Court took up a new dispute on the tensions between LGBT rights and religious rights by agreeing to hear a claim made by parents of elementary school students in Maryland who objected to books available in classrooms concerning gender transition and same-sex relationships.

The Supreme Court agreed Friday to review whether schools may read LGBTQ+ books to elementary school students without giving parents the ability to opt their children out on religious grounds.
