Evacuation orders have been issued in a western North Carolina county as three wildfires burn Sunday amid dry conditions and drought, officials said.

Evacuation orders were issued Sunday for parts of Polk County, North Carolina, where three large wildfires have burned more than 3,000 acres combined, officials said.

Forecasters posted an elevated fire-weather risk for an area from northern Georgia, through western portions of the Carolinas and into central Virginia.
