KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 7-year-old boy from Belton, Missouri, has been recognized by local fire crews after he alerted his family of a house fire last week, leading to the safety of everyone inside.

The fire was first reported at 8:25 a.m. on Fenton Lane, according to Paul Romer, the public information officer for the City of Belton.

The home suffered significant damage, but no one was inside at the time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
