Residents in parts of Fort Collins and certain areas of Weld County may be without power starting Friday due to the potential for extreme fire weather in the region, Xcel Energy announced Wednesday.

Xcel Energy said about 9,000 customers in Larimer and Weld counties will have power cut off Jan. 16 due to expected high winds and wildfire risk.

Strong winds and dry conditions may create dangerous fire weather this week, and Xcel Energy is warning customers in Larimer and Weld Counties that certain areas may experience power outages Friday, according to a press release.

Xcel Energy confirmed plans to shut off power in Northern Colorado this week due to extreme fire risk.

Xcel Energy said it expects service to be restored for most customers on Friday, but it could take longer than that for some.
