With the MacBook Pro 14-inch M4, Apple has created a pro-grade portable that impresses in every respect. It joins Apple's pantheon of outstanding laptops, and is set to take a well-deserved place at or near the top of our best laptops rankings.

The base MacBook Pro now sports three USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 (one more than on the M3 version), an HDMI, an SD card slot, a high-impedance headphone jack, and a MagSafe charging port. It's available in space black and silver.

Better chips otherwise, the same Jobs' Mob has rolled out its latest updates to the MacBook Pro lineup with more powerful chips, and… er that is it.   The new 14—and 16-inch MacBook Pros were announced via a low-key press release with all the fanfare of a damp squib.

Unlike the 14-inch model, there’s no base M4 option with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, making the M4 Pro-toting model the ‘entry level’ choice. It features a 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores four efficiency cores, and a 20-core GPU.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is a potent and premium laptop, but a somewhat specialized one given the high starting price and its CPU baseline of the M4 Pro. Unless money is no object to you, be honest with yourself about your computing needs before clicking the “buy” button on this one.

Macworld Apple introduced the MacBook Pro line of laptops in 2006, which means its 20th anniversary is right around the corner. According to a new report, Apple has some plans for the laptop to commemorate the occasion.
