A Washington, D.C., man who prefers buying lottery tickets in Maryland saw his strategy pay off with a $50,000 win in the July 15 drawing

When the man scanned his FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive ticket, which cost $30, he got the message, “Go to Lottery,” according to a July 2 Maryland Lottery news release. And he and his wife “had trouble reading some of the numbers” after taking the ticket home, so they weren’t positive they’d hit it big.

A long-haul trucker from North Carolina spent the night in Maryland and ended up winning a $50,000 lottery prize.

Two lottery players won big in Maryland and will split the prize, officials said. The lucky winners hit a jackpot worth $1.8 million in the June 30 Multi-Match drawing, the Maryland Lottery said in a July 1 news release. The winning numbers were 4, 13, 14, 20, 25 and 31, according to lottery officials.
