New York City’s migrant shelter operation is under criminal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, which is looking into the management and funding of the hotels that helped house the influx of hundreds of thousands of foreign migrants since 2022, according to published reports.

Prosecutors asked for a list of names of “aliens” living at a Manhattan hotel. The city houses about 43,000 migrants in shelters, including dozens of converted hotels.
