Good morning. There’s more executive turnover in the Fortune 500. Target CEO Brian Cornell is stepping down, and Michael Fiddelke, chief operating officer (COO), will become chief executive on Feb. 1, 2026. Cornell has led Target for 11 years.

The retailer is examining its Chicago-area stores to understand how each location is best suited to fulfill online orders, and expects to apply learnings to 40 new markets.

Shares of Target Corp. slumped 10.5% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the discount retailer said it was replacing for Chief Executive Brian Cornell, who has been in charge for the past 11 years, with current Chief Operating Officer Michael Fiddelke, effective Feb. 1, 2026.

The Minneapolis-based retailer certainly has challenges now, but looking back, it’s clear Target was in a make-or-break moment when Brian Cornell took charge 11 years ago.
