ATHENS, Ga. — Carson Beck had surgery on his elbow Monday, officially ending his season and making Gunner Stockton the Georgia starting quarterback for the College Football Playoff. The news was expected but formally announced by the program on Monday afternoon.

Georgia has reportedly been preparing to play without Beck since the SEC Championship, having considered his return unlikely. Unfortunately for Georgia, there is still plenty of time for Notre Dame to prepare to play against Stockton. The Sugar Bowl kicks off in 15 days.

Beck, who started every game for Georgia the last two seasons, passed for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns in 13 games in 2024. He was expected to enter the 2025 NFL draft, though he could technically take advantage of the COVID year and return to college next season.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery Monday on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, Ca,” the statement shared. “A full recovery is expected with throwing to begin spring of 2025.”
