The National Weather Service changed several of its winter weather terms in October 2024. Here is what they new terms mean.

A COLD WEATHER ADVISORY is in place from 7 pm Sunday to 10 am Wednesday in central Indiana. Multiple mornings will have wind chills of -10 to -20. This wording for the alert is brand new and replaced the wind chill advisory terminology.

In Grand Rapids, a cold weather advisory is issued when there is forecasted three or more hours of temperatures or wind chill (the “feels-like” temperature) at -15 degrees or colder. An extreme cold warning will be issued when there is forecasted three or more hours of temperatures or wind chill at -25 degrees or colder.

The FOX26 area should be ready for snow and ice this week. The can be fun but the threat of ice on the roads and power lines can be dangerous. The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH from 6pm Monday through 6pm Tuesday.

Very cold air will be moving in this weekend into next week. A cold weather advisory has been issued for southeast Wisconsin.
