A volcanic eruption in southwestern Iceland has once again forced the evacuation of local residents and tourists at the internationally known Blue Lagoon geothermal spa.

Icelandic authorities now say threats of wildfires have officials on "high" alert and that eruption fissures were bigger than scientists initially thought after Wednesday's eruption of the once-dorman

A volcano has erupted in Iceland spewing out streams of bright yellow and orange lava - the latest in a string of volcanic events in the region in recent years. Iceland has seen about 12 eruptions since volcanic systems on the Reykjanes peninsula - close to the capital Reykjavik - became active again in 2021.
