Derrick Groves was one of ten inmates who escaped. He was arrested for the shooting deaths of Jamar Robinson and Byron Jackson on Mardi Gras in 2018.

They included the Mardi Gras killer, Derrick Groves, convicted of opening fire on a 2018 Fat Tuesday party, killing Jamar Robinson, 26, and Byron Jackson, 21.

But family members of 21-year-old Byron Jackson and 26-year-old Jamar Robinson say they're still feeling unsafe. Jackson and Robinson were killed in a shooting during Mardi Gras in 2018.

Eight of the 10 have been captured. One of the men still at large — Derrick Groves — was convicted of murder for the shooting deaths of Jamar Robinson and Byron Jackson in 2024.
