Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang claims quantum computing is decades away, but is it really? The quantum era isn’t decades away — it’s unfolding in real-time.

The shares of IonQ Inc. and other companies linked to quantum computing tumbled in extended trading on Tuesday after Nvidia Corp. Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang said “very useful” quantum computers are likely decades away.

Shares of quantum-computing companies that skyrocketed in 2024 collapsed by double digits Wednesday after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said practical uses for quantum computing were more than a decade away.

At the Nvidia keynote at CES 2025, CEO Jensen Huang didn't waste anytime showing off the new GeForce RTX 50 Series. Huang walked onstage carrying the graphics card to a round of applause.

There were plenty of AI announcements at CES 2025 and while some were charming -- like the robot vacuum that can pick up dirty socks, or TVs that can generate recipes -- none of them has the power to transform society like Nvidia.

Nvidia and Broadcom both soared in the triple digits last year. The two stocks also are well positioned to benefit from the next stages of AI development. And the good news for investors is the AI momentum is likely to continue since this technology still is in the early days of its growth story.
