The US Justice Department has opened a probe into a recent breach at the leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global Inc., according to a person familiar with the matter.

Coinbase, the most popular U.S. cryptocurrency exchange has recently acknowledged a large-scale data breach that exposed sensitive personal information of its consumers. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong first confirmed the breach in a post on X (formerly Twitter) this morning.
