An Australian police officer has been shot dead on a rural property in Tasmania. The officer was undertaking "routine duties" at a house in North Motton, near the town of Ulverstone, on Monday morning when he was fired at by "a member of the public", Tasmania Police said in a statement.
Officers were initially dispatched to the 6500 block of Routt Street regarding a call about a shooting. Police ended up in the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Forest Ave. and found the man suffering from “gunshot wounds to his upper body/torso,” a news release from the department said.
One person was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff Sunday morning that was connected to a fatal shooting earlier in north Wichita, police said. Police officers heard and responded to gunshots at 9:32 p.m. Saturday in the area of 22nd and Hillside streets near Wichita State University and Wichita police Patrol North substation.
Police have been searching for Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in the shooting of two Democratic state politicians from Minnesota.
Salt Lake City police said in a post to social media that the shooting was "possibly associated" with a "No Kings" demonstration.
The Millsboro-area shooting was the second Kent County one that morning in which there were multiple victims and one killed.
