In an early week matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings, the Hurricanes rode a strong showing from goaltender Frederik Andersen and an all-around typical Hurricanes-styled game to a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings.
The Red Wings (30-25-6) have lost three in a row in regulation for the first time since a four-game slide from Dec. 20-27, but they maintain the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with 66 points. Alex Lyon made 28 saves, including stopping Taylor Hall’s penalty shot with 4:38 remaining in regulation.
