Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling certain canned tuna products sold at Costco, H-E-B, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and other stores.

Canned tuna products sold at major stores nationwide are being recalled for a fatal botulism risk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently posted a notice that Tri-Union Seafoods is recalling select lots of canned tuna products sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B and Trader Joe’s brand names.

Tuna sold in 26 states and in Washington, D.C., was recalled over concerns that it may have been contaminated. The stores affected include Trader Joe’s, Genova, Van Camp’s and H-E-B.

EL SEGUNDO, CA -- Several different flavors and sizes of tuna produced by California-based Tri-Union Seafoods have been recalled because of possible clostridium botulinum (botulism) contamination. The recall was announced by the Food and Drug Administration Monday which says no illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported.

The recalled tuna cans were sold under Genova, Van Camp's, H-E-B, and Trader Joe's brand names. They were distributed to major grocery chains, including Costco, Walmart, Publix, Kroger, Safeway, and Harris Teeter. Additionally, Trader Joe's locations in multiple states, including New York, Florida, and Texas, carried the affected products.

Canned tuna sold in New York state is among products sold under various labels being voluntarily recalled nationwide due to possible risk of developing the bacteria that causes botulism, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
