Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly has endorsed Mark Carney in the race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, arguing the former governor of the Bank of Canada has a "clear vision" for the future.

Northern Ontario Liberal MPs were set to endorse Carney for leader at a news conference on Friday. Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu, who is backing Carney, said it was cancelled because of a scheduling conflict and the event likely will be moved to somewhere in northern Ontario.

In all, seven Liberals have now confirmed either on social media or to The Canadian Press that they provided the required signatures and the initial deposit, including former central banker Mark Carney, MPs Chrystia Freeland, Karina Gould, Chandra Arya and Jaime Battiste, and former MPs Frank Baylis and Ruby Dhalla.
