Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested while trying to inspect Delaney Hall, deepening the city’s legal fight with a private prison contractor.

American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey Executive Director Amol Sinha, in a statement sent to Newsweek via email on Friday: "The arrest of Mayor Ras Baraka by the Department of Homeland Security is a shameful escalation of the Trump administration's intimidation campaign against officials who refuse to do their bidding."

Ras Baraka, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, could face a July trial for trespassing after his arrest at a private detention facility that would help the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts.
