The United States transported another group of alleged gang members to El Salvador, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday, amid the Trump administration's policy to ship detainees to the Central American country.

The Trump administration says it has deported 17 more “violent criminals” from the Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gangs to El Salvador, as it doubles down on a policy of removing people from the U.S. to third countries despite criticism over lack of transparency and human rights protections.

The Trump administration said the men accused of being MS-13 and Tren de Aragua members were sent to El Salvador as part of a “counterterrorism operation.”
