NEWCASTLE have been praised for donating £15,000 towards helping AFC Wimbledon deal with their flooded pitch. The Wombles had been due to host Eddie Howe’s side in the Carabao Cup this week.

AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle United will meet at St James’ Park in seven days time. However, this is already building into a very special story. So often in adversity and tough times, help comes from the most unexpected places.

Former AFC Wimbledon players Jack Currie and Lee Brown have both made donations towards the JustGiving page to help the club get games back on at Plough Lane following the extensive flooding and damage to the pitch and stadium. Currie, 22, progressed through the club’s academy and made 95 first team appearances before joining Oxford in the summer.

Newcastle United have provided financial support to AFC Wimbledon following the Carabao Cup third round postponement.

Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round tie between AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle has been postponed due to extensive flooding that caused what looked like a sinkhole to open up on the pitch at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Newcastle United have donated £15,000 to the JustGiving page set up by Wimbledon fans to help the club after flooding wrecked the pitch at Plough Lane and caused damage to the stadium. The Premier League side’s donation took the total beyond the targeted £50k set by the page.
