Gerry Faust, the former football coach Notre Dame famously hired straight from the high school ranks, died Monday. He was 89. From 1981-85, Faust paced the Fighting Irish to a 30-26-1 record before resigning at the end of his fifth season.

Faust, also known as 'Fuzzy,' spent 18 years as Moeller's head coach before leaving to coach at the University of Notre Dame. He finished with a record of 178-23-2, Moeller reported.
