Snow and ice has covered roads and made driving conditions difficult or even impossible, especially in the northern and central regions.

Alabama students are only just beginning to return to class after the winter holiday and now school systems are having to decide whether to cancel due to the threat of winter storms. Forecasters issued winter storm watches for north and part of central Alabama that will go into effect at midnight on Friday.
