A drunk driver will spend more than a decade in prison for a hit-and-run crash that left a 73-year-old woman dead in Chandler in 2023.

A driver drove off the road near Gilbert and Riggs Roads and crashed into a tree, sparking a fire, police said on Jan. 8. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chandler police responded to the single-vehicle rollover crash just after 2:30 a.m. on Gilbert Road near Doral Drive, which is just north of Hunt Highway. Police said the driver was heading south on Gilbert Road north of Doral when the vehicle drove off the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver who fatally struck an elderly woman using a Chandler crosswalk in 2023 has been sentenced to prison. Keith J. Taylor, 27, was recently sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of a deadly crash,
