Civilization 7 is mere days away from releasing, and its critical reception paves the way for some interesting comparisons to past series entries.

Civilization has always evolved and there's been aspects to love in every one of its entries. Having put a lot of time into Sid Meier's Civilization 7 over the past month, I have not a single doubt that things will turn out the same way they always do.

I gave up on Civ a few versions back: the historical features and flourishes didn't evoke "guide human civilization" as a game any more for me. Just more themed elaborations of complicated game systems I didn't have time to figure out.

An excellent art style, fantastic sound track, and great leaps forwards for replayability, Civilization 7 is a great game. But it will prove divisive.
