Then Michigan State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Branch County. Sheriff Fred Blankenship said the incident occurred following a pursuit in Algansee Township Monday when the driver failed to stop for a deputy at about 5 p.m. on Central Road near Ferguson Road.

At around 5 p.m., the suspect driver failed to stop for a deputy from the Branch County Sheriff's Office, which initiated a chase. The pursuit began on Central Road and halted at the intersection of Kelley Road and State Line Road when the vehicle left the roadway.

Investigators said the deputy found someone in a stolen car. It was immediately unclear how things escalated, but the situation ended with the deputy firing at least one shot, hitting and killing a suspect.

A deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office was "involved in" a shooting Tuesday morning, SCSO said in a social media statement.
