Sainsbury’s has said it will match the price of up to 200 Aldi products in its smaller stores as it battles rivals to get more customers in its convenience stores. Shopping locally for groceries may be handy but people who rely on convenience stores can end up paying far more.

Supermarket chain Sainsbury's is set to introduce the Aldi Price Match offer in its Local convenience stores - a first in the UK grocery sector.

Sainsbury’s said it has become the first UK supermarket group to extend a scheme matching the prices of German-owned discounter Aldi on hundreds of products into its convenience stores, upping the competitive ante ahead of the key Christmas trading season.

Aldi continues to be the UKs cheapest supermarket month after month, but it seems Sainsbury’s is about to give it a run for its money. The food retailer has said it will match the price of up to 200 Aldi products in its smaller stores – the first time any supermarket convenience stores has made such a promise.
