An evacuation zone was established between the 101 Freeway and Laurel Canyon and between Mulholland Drive and Hollywood Boulevard.

The new blaze lit up near Runyon Canyon, which is in the vicinity of iconic Los Angeles locations and tourist destinations. No homes were said to be damaged.

Nearly 2,000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been destroyed as fires consumed a total of 108 square kilometers (42 square miles) — which is almost equal to the size of the entire city of Vancouver.

Five people are confirmed dead and more than 137,000 people have been evacuated as some Hollywood stars lose their homes in the blaze.

A pair of massive wildfires menacing Los Angeles from the east and west were still burning uncontained on Thursday, two days after they ignited, but firefighters managed to beat back another blaze scorching the Hollywood Hills.
