According to the Cleveland Clinic, the condition is “a noncancerous vocal cord disorder” whose “hallmark symptoms are hoarseness and a noticeably deeper voice.”

Cyrus appeared on the May 21 episode of Zane Lowe’s podcast and said she was hosting a New Year’s Eve special alongside her godmother Dolly Parton when she began to experience a painful medical crisis while on-air.
