While President Donald Trump has threatened to punish local law enforcement if they do not help carry out mass deportations, some have said they still won’t comply. In Texas, though, that hasn’t really been an option since mid-2017.

The new administration could use the existing system of federal agents, local police and jails to funnel more people into the deportation pipeline.

But if you dig deeper into the polling, it turns out that support for mass deportations varies a lot depending on how the question is asked, making it tricky to assess how Americans really feel about what Trump is doing — and how they will react to it.
