Microsoft just released Office 2024 for Mac and PC. This software is available for those who don't like paying subscriptions. Is it worth it?

Office 2024 will be available in two different editions. Office Home 2024, priced at $149.99, includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for PC or Mac. If you want Outlook, you’ll need to purchase the $249.99 Office Home and Business 2024 version, which also includes the rights to use the apps for commercial purposes.

Note that Office 2024 is a locked-in-time version, which means all of the included Microsoft apps have been updated to the latest features for release but won’t be receiving further updates. To stay on top of evolving features, you’ll want Microsoft 365 instead.

In addition to adding Outlook, the Home & Business version also is licensed to allow the apps to be used for commercial purposes, Microsoft says. The company says Office 2024 is compatible with Windows 10 and 11 and the last three versions of MacOS.

Microsoft will officially support Office 2024 with bug fixes and security updates until October 9, 2029, a five-year window in keeping with other recent perpetually licensed versions of the software suite.

A new standalone release of Microsoft Office 2024 for macOS is available, giving users an alternative to paying for a Microsoft 365 subscription.
