Two American tourists drowned hours apart at Carnival’s private Bahamas resort on Friday, less than a month since the cruise line opened the $600 million Caribbean getaway destination. Carnival officials told the Post that the “water emergency incidents” involving guests traveling on two different ships happened at Celebration Key on Grand Bahama Island.

Two American tourists died in drowning incidents at Celebration Key in the Bahamas on Friday, Aug. 15, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that they had been passengers sailing on two different ships.

Even though Carnival Cruise Line has been hosting guests at its new private island in the Bahamas for less than a month, two guests have already died by drowning. Both deaths happened on Friday at Celebration Key — Carnival’s private island — and both incidents involved visitors in their 70s.
