Africa has received a total of $1 billion from Governments and international donors to combat the ongoing mpox outbreak in Africa, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has secured over $800 million, surpassing its initial target, to combat a rising mpox outbreak in the continent. U.S. contributions include $500 million and 1 million vaccine doses.

Over $800 million has been pledged to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention for its fight against a surging mpox outbreak on the continent, the agency's head said on Thursday, adding that the amount was higher than expected.

Suspected cases of mpox have been recorded in at least 15 African countries, said Jean Kaseya, the director-general of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
