Jhansi: A fire at the Special Newborn Care Unit of Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi snuffed out the lives of 10 newborns on Friday night, exposing significant lapses in fire safety measures. The incident occurred while 55 newhorns were being treated in the ward.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said a short circuit caused the fire at the children's ward of a Jhansi medical college that killed 10 newborns. The state government ordered a three-tier probe into the incident.

A high-level committee has been formed by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the fire incident at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College, Jhansi, that resulted in the death of 10 infants. The committee will investigate the cause of the fire,

An ex gratia of ₹5 lakh has been announced for parents of each of the deceased babies and ₹50,000 for each of the injured babies' families.

A massive fire broke out at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Jhansi Medical College late 15 evening. The tragic fire incident took the lives of 10 innocent newborn babies who were admitted to the NICU ward.

A two-member inquiry committee, comprising the Commissioner and the DIG, has been formed to probe the incident and submit a report to the Chief Minister.
