Three New Jersey residents were among the five people killed Friday afternoon when a tour bus carrying more than 50 passengers overturned on Interstate 90 in Genesee County, New York, state police there confirmed. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:22 p.m. on Friday in the town of Pembroke, roughly 30 miles east of Buffalo, police said.
A tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls with 54 people aboard crashed and rolled on its side Friday on an interstate highway, killing five passengers and injuring many others, authorities said.
"Avoid the NYS Thruway eastbound at all costs as a tour bus has rolled over near the Erie and Genesee County lines," Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz said on X. "This is a potential mass casualty incident," he said, adding that the county's emergency and security services are assisting.
