Aitana Bonmati broke Switzerland’s resistance as Spain reached the Euro 2025 semi-finals despite missing two penalties in their win over the hosts in Bern. The world champions failed to score in the first half for the first time this tournament and were frustrated by an organised Switzerland side after Mariona Caldentey pulled an eighth-minute penalty wide of goal.
Spain overcame missing two penalties to beat hosts Switzerland 2-0 on Friday to reach the Women's Euro semifinals for just the second time in their history. Forward Athenea del Castillo came off the bench to open the scoring and Clàudia Pina added a superb second to secure a meeting with face France or Germany in the final four.
