Does PS5 disk version allow me to download digital games?
In my opinion this was a very bad decision on Sony's part to make these two different consoles. Even though it is all but obvious that the disc version can download digital versions of games, just like the PS4, i am seeing that it still confuses people.

In Sweden horizon Forbidden west DISC PS5 edition can be bought for 599sek. Roughly 55-60 dollars. But the online price for the very same game is 849sek. Roughly 80-85 dollars.

I've not been using the disk drive on the PS5 for a while, but when Skyrim came out yesterday i installed it (have a disk version) to get the current gen update. Only affects the PS4 disk games i've upgraded to PS5 versions, so the likes of Crash 4, Death Stranding, No Man's Sky and Little Nightmare II.

For example, they are selling the PS5 version of Callisto Protocol for £70 on PSN, I got it for £38 from Shopto. This also means when they do things like 25% off sale !!11!!!! Whichmeans if they do this sale in 3 months time, a £70 game is still going to be like £52. But the same physical copy online will likely cost you £25/30.

Apr 16, 2024 · No, the disk holds some of the memory of the game. That and disk games are local to a console. For example, I could have a bunch of disk games played on my PS4. To play them on my PS5 I need to re-download the disk game on my PS5. Games are hardware based, saves are software based (for modern games).

If you buy the ps4 version of disc games, a lot of them will upgrade you to the ps5 version for free which can save some cashola. Other than that, there’s not really a huge difference hardware wise except for the obvious lack of a disc drive.

PS5 disc will work only in PS5 disc systems, and it will have the PS5 copy of the game on the disc. PS4 disc will work on both the PS5 disc system and the PS4/Pro systems, but it’ll only have the PS4 version on-disc, so if you can’t download the PS5 patch (if available) on PS5, then it’ll just run the PS4 copy in back-compat mode.
