The Museum, located within the former Texas School Book Depository building, chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. The main exhibit, John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation, is on the sixth floor.

Narrated walking tour, maps, and stories explore the history of the Dallas site where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

The Museum presents programs, events and special exhibits that allow visitors to explore specific aspects of the history of the Kennedy presidency and assassination, providing deeper engagement with personal stories and experiences, as well as the Museum’s collections.

John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza Renowned American architect Philip Johnson’s design is a cenotaph, or “open tomb,” that symbolizes the freedom of President Kennedy’s spirit. The memorial, a square, roofless room, 30 feet high and 50 by 50 feet wide, sits in the middle of the block with narrow openings facing north and south.

November 21, 1963. A two-day political trip to five Texas cities gets under way. A short video highlights the enthusiastic crowds cheering on the Kennedy’s throughout their trip and explores the complex social and political atmosphere in Dallas at the time of the assassination.
