Many of you will remember the efforts made last year to save the building at 69 High Street, the first Kensington Elementary School, built in the 1840s. With strong community advocacy, the Council Assessment Panel rejected the demolition application twice. Unfortunately, following an appeal to the Environment, Resources and Development Court, approval to demolish the building was ultimately granted. This outcome is deeply disappointing for everyone who values Kensington’s history and heritage. I
